If words are power and music heals, songs with empowering lyrics can really make a difference. In part 1 HERE I introduced you to ten songs that have deeply meaningful lyrics, some of which helped me through depressive episodes and reminded me of my worth. Music can help mental health so here are 10 more songs you may want to add to your playlists. All of these songs will be played on the new mental health and music station in 2019. They are varied for different genres and interests. This selection is a mix of great lyrics and uplifting beats. The fundraising campaign begins on October 2nd so we can fly high with everything we need to get going.

The power in Rag’n’Bone Man’s voice blew me away when I first heard it along with his epic beautiful sound. This is a real feeler of a song. Thoroughly enjoy it. A song when you feel the world is putting blame on and you have lost touch with the fact you are human and that’s okay.

Maybe I’m foolish, maybe I’m blind

Thinking I can see through this and see what’s behind

Got no way to prove it so maybe I’m blind

But I’m only human after all, I’m only human after all

Don’t put your blame on me

Take a look in the mirror and what do you see

Do you see it clearer or are you deceived in what you believe

Cos I’m only human after all, you’re only human after all

Don’t put the blame on me

Don’t put your blame on me

This song may not be something you know, but it’s lyrics are very purposeful. Absorb them when you feel you are not in the right place or need to be doing something else

I am exactly where I need to be

I need to be exactly where I am

I am a blessing manifest

I can undress the moment

naked time unwinds beneath my mind

and from within i find the kind of beauty

only I can find

I am exactly where I need to be

I need to be exactly where I am

I am surrendering so willingly

to be the perfect me inside this now

The video is not meant to offend, but lighten the mood. I hope this song makes you smile and if you are feeling low and lacking in energy I dare you to get up with your headphones on loud and not move that body. It’s a hilarious video and just emphasises we don’t need to take ourselves so seriously. The lyrics are limited but the energy is infectious! And we all need a good laugh often.

BRAVE by Sara Bareilles is a song for courage. A song that encourages you to step up, stand out, let yourself be seen and heard no matter what your life circumstances. After what felt like a decade of invisibility this song is one of my many ‘go-to’ songs to remind me to keep going, no matter how unconventional I am or how my light needs to be seen.

You can be amazing

You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug

You can be the outcast

Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love

Or you can start speaking up

Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do

When they settle ‘neath your skin

Kept on the inside and no sunlight

Sometimes a shadow wins

But I wonder what would happen if you

This song by Katy Perry is the first song I heard that I felt like it was speaking to me. Not a song only for teenagers but for anyone who has a light inside that has been hidden. For when you feel you are not good enough, but want so much to share your passion and your voice. When the inner voice is painful this song helps inspire me. It often makes me cry. As I write this and listen I have goosebumps as the song speaks to the reason I am setting up the radio station Peace Within Radio.

Do you ever feel

Like a plastic bag

Drifting through the wind

Wanting to start again

Do you ever feel Feel

so paper-thin

Like a house of cards

One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel

Already buried deep

Six feet under

Screams but no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that there’s

Still a chance for you

‘Cause there’s a spark in you

You just gotta

Ignite the light

And let it shine

Just own the night

Like the Fourth of July

An upbeat song for when the haters are hating. If you have put yourself out into the world and people are criticising you, trolls are attacking you on social media, when people are being cruel, sometimes you just need to literally shake it off. This beat is really catchy too. Taylor Swift has had her fair share of haters in her position as a celebrity musician

I stay out too late, got nothin’ in my brain
That’s what people say, mmm hmm, that’s what people say, mmm hmm
I go on too many dates, but I can’t make ’em stay
At least that’s what people say mmm mmm, that’s what people say mmm mmm

But I keep cruising, can’t stop, won’t stop moving
It’s like I got this music in my mind, sayin’ gonna be alright

‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

Jessie J has a great pair of lungs. Knowing the lyrics helps. She is someone who has been through a lot and sings her feelings with incredible power. A song when you are feeling overwhelmed and at a loss in life. She has helped many people through some really challenging times with her song lyrics and passion.

I stare at my reflection in the mirror
Why am I doing this to myself?
Losing my mind on a tiny error,
I nearly left the real me on the shelf
No, no, no, no

Don’t lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It’s okay not to be okay
Sometimes it’s hard, to follow your heart
Tears don’t mean you’re losing, everybody’s bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Brushing my hair, do I look perfect?
I forgot what to do to fit the mold, yeah
The more I try the less it’s working, yeah,
‘Cause everything inside me screams, no, no, no, no, yeah

Don’t lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing
It’s okay not to be okay
Sometimes it’s hard, to follow your heart
But tears

An uplifting, feel-good song for when you are in that place. A day when the sun shining is a good thing and you are in a lighter spirit.

had a dream so big and loud
I jumped so high I touched the clouds
Wo-o-o-o-o-oh, wo-o-o-o-o-oh
I stretched my hands out to the sky
We danced with monsters through the night
Wo-o-o-o-o-oh, wo-o-o-o-o-oh

I’m never gonna look back
Woah, never gonna give it up
No, please don’t wake me now

This is gonna be the best day of my life
My li-i-i-i-i-ife
This is gonna be the best day of my life
My li-i-i-i-i-ife

This track by Elisha David is such a sweet gentle song. More from when you are in that in-between place between sorrow and peace, but a song that will soothe the spirit and heart.

praise the world
and grow
and let your sorrow go

face the day
repeat the sounding joy…

Jason Mraz is a bit like liquid velvet on the ears. A great reminder that the moment is the only place we have to be. The more we are able to be here-now the stress and struggle can reduce.

If this life is one act
Why do we lay all these traps
We put them right in our path
When we just wanna be free

I will not waste my days
Making up all kinds of ways
To worry about all the things
That will not happen to me

So I just let go of what I know I don’t know
And I know I only do this by
Living in the moment
Living my life
Easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
With peace in my heart
Peace in my soul
Wherever I’m going, I’m already home
Living in the moment

I’m letting myself off the hook for things I’ve done
I let my past go past
And now I’m having more fun
I’m letting go of the thoughts
That do not make me strong
And I believe this way can be the same for everyone

And if I fall asleep
I know you’ll be the one who’ll always remind me
To live in the moment
