Some of the most beautiful ways to enlighten and inspire in the world come from using our powerful feeling senses of sight, touch and hearing; from healing music to dance to art. Mindfulness is a relatively new concept to the West but being mindful, practising compassion and kindness has been a way of life for many in the East.
Francois Lange, an inspirational mindfulness artist, has been bringing his meditations and ideas to the world since 2009. Born in Norway, with a mother from Africa and father from Norway, Francois spent a long time travelling the world getting to know many different cultures. This way of life opened his eyes to the diversity in the world and the importance of compassion and kindness when dealing with people. Francois discovered that travelling meant owning nothing and having nothing to protect, so looking through those eyes he was able to develop an awareness and mindful understanding of the world around him which he brought forth into his art and illustrations.
“You learn to be a neutral observer who looks through the eyes of all. An observer does not have a particular nation to identify with or protect. Being too nationalistic creates division, war and suffering. When you own nothing and have nothing to protect, peace becomes an everyday experience to you. It becomes more real than war.”
To Francois, art is getting your human self out of the way allowing the space where love and peace resides.
Travelling so much as a child made it hard to make friends, so Francois found the characters in his drawings became his friends.
Later Francois trained in the art of Disney animation by Disney animators and was involved in the movie Curious George, but he knew he had more to give. As someone who had been meditating since he was very young, he was being called back to stillness and during a near death experience he became aware of what perfect peace was and from here his life expanded and his art reflected his experience.

Mindfulness and meditation is certainly a path I recommend to find a greater sense of peace, especially when you suffer from mental health issues like depression and anxiety.
